Quick answer
Indoors in Singapore, a 12-inch latex helium balloon floats for about 8 to 10 hours. Foil balloons last 1 to 3 days, and Orbz balloons 2 to 5 days. Outdoors, heat, sun and wind bring all of them down faster. For most parties, the best plan is to have your balloons delivered on the day itself, 1 to 2 hours before guests arrive.
We’ve inflated and delivered helium balloons across Singapore since 2018. The floating times below are what we see with our own balloons in air-conditioned rooms. Below them, you’ll find what shortens floating time and how to get the most out of your balloons.
Helium balloon floating times by type
| Balloon type |
Floating time (Air-conditioned indoor) |
|---|---|
| 12″ latex balloon | 8 to 10 hours |
| 12″ confetti balloon | 6 to 8 hours |
| 36″ confetti balloon | 10 to 12 hours |
| Jumbo gender reveal balloon | 6 to 8 hours |
| 24″ latex balloon | 1 to 2 days |
| 36″ latex balloon | 1 to 3 days |
| 24″ bubble balloon | 1 to 2 days |
| Foil (mylar) balloon | 1 to 3 days |
| Orbz balloon | 2 to 5 days |
| Air-filled balloon | Does not float |
Floating times are estimates for air-conditioned rooms, not guarantees. Temperature, handling and time outdoors all change them.
Two patterns stand out. Bigger latex balloons float longer than small ones, so a 36″ balloon outlasts a 12″ one by a day or more. Confetti balloons float for less time than plain balloons of the same size, because the confetti adds weight.
Fun fact
All Funlah latex balloons are treated with Hi-Float. It’s a coating applied inside each balloon before inflation that slows down how fast helium escapes, so our latex balloons tend to last longer than the times above in indoor, air-conditioned areas. They still shrink gradually as the hours pass, so we quote these times for planning and still recommend delivery on the event day.
Why helium balloons don’t last as long in Singapore
Heat makes helium expand, and balloons can burst
Helium expands as it warms. A balloon that was inflated correctly in an air-conditioned room can become over-inflated once it’s out in the heat, especially in direct sun or in a parked car. A sudden jump from around 26–30°C to 31–35°C is enough to burst a foil balloon.
Air-conditioning makes foil balloons look deflated
The opposite happens when you carry a foil balloon from outdoors (26–30°C) into an air-conditioned room (18–22°C). The helium contracts and the balloon looks soft or wrinkled. It usually isn’t leaking. Give it time to adjust, take it somewhere warmer for a while, or blow a little air into it with a straw or pump. A small amount of air won’t stop it floating.
A correctly inflated foil balloon should have small wrinkles along its edges. If it looks completely smooth and tight, it’s over-inflated and more likely to burst when it warms up.
Sun and air make latex look cloudy
Latex reacts with oxygen, heat and sunlight, a process called oxidation. Over time, a glossy latex balloon turns cloudy or matte. This is normal and happens faster in sunlight, which is one more reason to keep balloons indoors until the event starts.
Wind, rain and rough surfaces outdoors
We can’t give a reliable floating time for balloons used outdoors, whether at a void deck, a park or a poolside. Heat, wind, sudden rain and contact with rough surfaces like plants, walls or textured ceilings all shorten their life.
How to make your helium balloons last longer
- Get them on the event day. Choose a delivery slot that ends 1 to 2 hours before your party starts. For a 5pm party, pick the 3pm–4pm slot.
- Don’t collect latex balloons the day before. A 12″ latex balloon floats for 8 to 10 hours, so balloons collected the night before may not look fresh the next day.
- Keep them in air-con and out of direct sun. Keep them away from windows that get afternoon sun and away from heat sources such as lamps or ovens.
- Never put balloons in the car boot. It gets too hot. Put them on the back seat with the air-con running. About 20 latex balloons fit on a back seat. A 36″ balloon needs an MPV or SUV with a back door.
- Keep them away from sharp or rough edges, including ceiling texture, plants and fan blades.
- Tie them down outdoors. Use weights, and keep balloons away from children and pets when no one is watching.

Which balloons should you choose for your event?
- Indoor party lasting a few hours: latex balloon bouquets float long enough and cost the least.
- A gift you want to last a few days: choose foil balloons or an Orbz bouquet.
- A morning event: book an early delivery slot rather than buying the night before. Delivery before 10am starts from $40.
- A backdrop or garland: air-filled balloons don’t float, but they don’t depend on helium either, so they’re a common choice for garlands and arches. See our party backdrop setups.
- Personalised balloons: a personalised balloon floats as long as its balloon type. The lettering is a vinyl sticker, so it may bubble or wrinkle as the balloon shrinks. This is normal.
Can you get helium balloons delivered the same day?
Often, yes. WhatsApp us at +65 8882 8123 by 2.30pm (1pm on Sundays to Tuesdays) to check availability. Once we confirm, place your order and write “Same-day delivery” in the order notes. For same-day orders we confirm a delivery window with you rather than a fixed hour.
If you need a specific 1-hour slot, order at least a day ahead. Standard delivery is $25 for any 1-hour slot between 10am and 6pm, and it’s free on orders above $250. Our helium balloon delivery page has full details, including early-morning and evening slots.

How long do helium balloons last outdoors in Singapore?
There’s no reliable figure, because heat, direct sun, wind and rain all shorten floating time and can burst balloons. Keep balloons in a cool, shaded place and bring them outside only when the event starts.
Can I buy helium balloons the day before my party?
We don’t recommend it for latex balloons. Ours are treated with Hi-Float and often float longer than the quoted 8 to 10 hours, but they shrink as time passes and may not look full by the next day. Foil and Orbz balloons often float overnight, but that isn’t guaranteed. The safest option is delivery on the event day, 1 to 2 hours before it starts.
Why is my foil balloon shrinking?
Usually it’s the temperature, not a leak. When a foil balloon moves from the outdoor heat into air-conditioning, the helium inside contracts. Leave it to adjust, or add a little air with a straw.
Do confetti balloons last as long as plain latex balloons?
No. A 12″ confetti balloon floats for about 6 to 8 hours, compared with 8 to 10 hours for a plain 12″ latex balloon, because the confetti adds weight.
Which helium balloons last the longest?
Orbz balloons last the longest, at about 2 to 5 days indoors, followed by foil balloons and 36″ latex balloons at 1 to 3 days.
Can I fit helium balloons in my car?
About 20 latex balloons or a 24″ bubble balloon fit on the back seat of a car. A 36″ balloon needs an MPV or SUV with a back door. Never put balloons in the boot, because the heat can burst them.
